Reading the cues
Our training sessions aim to teach the team to collectively identify the triggers that will allow them to make the correct decisions.
- Opponent’s line of restraint
- Shape and tendencies of opponent’s backline
- Goalkeeper position
- Number of gates
- Who is defending zone 14
Combining to score
We combine to score
We will seldom have a numerical advantage in the final third. Combination play allows us to isolate a defender and create a 2 v1 in small spaces.
Collaboration and Precision
The lack of space and higher pressure lead not only to failure to create scoring chances but to turnovers and transition moments for the opponent.
We need to read cues quicker, make purposeful runs and be more surgical with our passing and finishing.
DETAILS MATTER.
Team affair
Every member of the team has a role to play in the build up. Therefore, every training session should outline the involvement and responsibilities of all field players and goalkeepers.
As the understanding, range of movement and passing, and collective decision making improves, so will our efficiency in the buildup.
The right mentality
It all starts with attitude. Our players learn to be confident under pressure. Our training sessions need to teach them to:
- Recognize the cues
- Make the correct decision
- Execute the skill with technical precision
Progress is the goal
Moving forward on and off the field is the ultimate goal.
Our players need to be coached to:
- Think forward
- Run forward
- Pass forward
